Damage criterion approach to high?strength steel RHS truss joints

چکیده

This paper describes finite element simulations of the structural deformation and material fracture behaviour high-strength steel RHS K gap truss joints. The fundamental scope was to examine whether joint strength predictions based on lower more ductile with a yield stress 355 MPa or less would hold good for higher 450 ductility. FEA reliability analysis indicates that failure modes associated local buckling, yielding (chord side wall failure, chord face plastification brace failures due reduced effective width), existing approach could, modifications, be extended cover tubes, but ductility liable brittle (tearing in tension punching shear), reduction modifying factor required. incorporated damage mechanics calibrate experimental results both failure. proposes new formulation incorporates high-grade modifier function is not stress, instead recognizes ultimate strains, parameter material.

Damage detection of truss bridge joints using Artificial Neural Networks

Recent developments in Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have opened up new possibilities in the domain of inverse problems. For inverse problems like structural identification of large structures (such as bridges) where in situ measured data are expected to be imprecise and often incomplete, ANNs may hold greater promise. This study presents a method for estimating the damage intensities of jo...

Stress concentration factors for multiplanar joints in RHS

Hollow sections are most suitable for welded connections between members. The welding procedure is fairly straightforward in RHS, because they do not require profiling which is necessary for circular hollow sections. Although many multiplanar and uniplanar joints in structures are present, limited evidence is available for the fatigue behaviour of joints made of rectangular hollow sections. Thi...

Comparison Study on Neural Networks in Damage Detection of Steel Truss Bridge

This paper presents the application of three main Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in damage detection of steel bridges. This method has the ability to indicate damage in structural elements due to a localized change of stiffness called damage zone. The changes in structural response is used to identify the states of structural damage. To circumvent the difficulty arising from the non-linear n...

Seismic Retrofit of Bridge Steel Truss Piers Using a Controlled Rocking Approach

This paper investigates a seismic retrofit technique that allows bridge steel truss piers to uplift and rock on their foundation. Displacement-based passive energy dissipation devices buckling-restrained braces, or BRBs are implemented at the uplifting location to control the rocking response while providing additional energy dissipation. The hysteretic behavior of the controlled rocking system...

Analysis and Optimization of Composite to Steel Joints for Ships

Composite to steel joints as important components of ships are gradually found in the marine industry. The purpose of this study is to investigate mechanical performance and optimization methods of the composite sandwich to steel joints. The main emphasis was placed on the mechanical properties of a hybrid joint between a sandwich glass fibre reinforced plastic superstructure and a steel main h...
